The trachea, colloquially referred to as the windpipe, is divided into bronchi, smaller tubes that are also divided into other tiny tubes extending through the lungs. Among the illnesses that could affect your airways, there is:
- Asthma: Wheezing and breath shortness result from persistent inflammation that might cause occasional muscle contraction in the airway. Factors like pollution, allergies and infection can bring on symptoms of asthma.
- Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: People with COPD tend to have breathing difficulty, as they become unable to exhale in a normal way.
- Chronic bronchitis: A type of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease with long-lasting chesty cough.
