Four types of coronavirus infect humans, leading to cold-like symptoms. These viruses seem to have evolved to spread very vast. Prior to the novel coronavirus outbreak, MERS (Middle East respiratory syndrome) and SARS (severe acute respiratory syndrome) have infected a huge number of people all around the world. Their causing viruses were picked up from animals, just like H5N1. MERS and SARS were highly fatal. Each of these two diseases claimed the lives of about 1,000 people. Unfortunately, COVID-19 appears to be more dangerous. This disease has already killed over twice that number, reports indicate. The COVID-19-causing virus makes people sick in unpredictable ways. Moreover, the infected patients may not present with any symptoms at all, spreading the virus to more and more people.
